The Information Centre in Hólmavík was first opened in 1997 at the Community Centre in Hólmavík. Since then it has been run by Strandabyggð district every year during the summertime.
In
spring 2006 the The Folklore
Centre in Hólmavík and
Strandabyggð made a
contract about the running of the centre and quality control during the
summer. In addition The Folklore Centre also takes care of replying to
requests and questions during wintertime. The purpose with the change
and the contract is to strengthen the Information Centre so it can play
a bigger and more important role in the task of advertising the Strandir
area worldwide in the future. The Folklore Centre will continue to run the
centre in summer 2005. INTERNET
ACCESS & HANDICRAFT STORE The Information Centre in Hólmavík give service to tourists in any possible way, with multible brochures and information you need to know. At the Centre people can buy postcards, stamps, maps of Iceland and books for tourists. You can also buy a cup of coffee, check your e-mail or surf the internet. The Handicraft Store of local handicraft group Strandakúnst is also located at the Information Centre. There you can take a look at various beautiful things made by local people, and of course buy some.
